multi space renovation

colonial conversion

These clients bought a home that included an addition with a large kitchen, small mudroom and a room that was underutilized.  The kitchen design wasn’t a good use of the space and the finishes were dated and of poor quality.

design process

mood board

The proposed design would create a customized lay-out to accommodate this busy family of five.  The mudroom footprint was increased and made more efficient with custom built-ins.  A bonus walk-in pantry was worked into the design to provide lots of efficient storage and a punch of color.

the dilemma

Muddled Mudroom

Their mudroom was really just a big closet, which for a family of 5 quickly became disorganized and congested.

Pile of thing accumulating by the door for a family prior to the renovation

Nothing had a place of its own, and this athletic family has a lot to store.

AFTER
Mudroom with custom cabinetry so everything has a place after the space had been renovated by Marlene & Co

Taking some space from an adjacent, under utilized room allowed us to increase the size of the mudroom and open it up.  The built-in window has two drawers, one dedicated to the family’s dog, Pete!

the dilemma

Give it a purpose

This area became a drop spot because of its location at the entrance of the kitchen, and the closet used up a lot of space for not a lot of storage.  They needed this large space to serve a better purpose.

BEFORE
Small and not usable space within the kitchen before the renovation

The small desk and cabinet didn’t serve a real function, and the closet was a hideaway for miscellaneous things.

White Built-In Custom Cabinetry Designed & Built by Marlene & Co

We were able to turn this section of wall into a coffee bar and message center. The message center cabinet has pocket doors that can hide the command center for this busy mom.

fun addition

party in the pantry

The owners chose warm, timeless finishes for the kitchen including a walnut island and beige painted cabinets.  For their pantry, we suggested adding a punch of fun with a vibrant wallpaper.  and complementary coral painted wall with white open shelving.

Custom pantry with fun wallpaper to brighten the space in a Marlene & Co renovation

They liked the idea of a fun wallpaper, so we applied it to one wall in the pantry and painted the adjacent walls with open shelving a pretty coral color.

The added pantry shelving was customized for their storage needs including recycling bins, small appliances and charging for tools.
