This beautiful, grand home had a kitchen that just wasn’t up to par. It was small, dated and of poor quality. The homeowner loves to cook and bake which was difficult in the space.
This was a bit of a brain teaser with several variables that had to be accommodated in the new kitchen layout. The client wanted a kitchen that was not only highly functional but also beautifully timeless and elegant with upscale finishes and details.
There were two large support columns holding up the second floor; there were several openings and an oversized walk-in pantry/wet bar that wasn’t being used. The kitchen table took up a lot of valuable real estate. Other priorities for the space included a large island with seating for the family of six and a bar to make entertaining easier and more fun. This project took a lot of perseverance, but we love a challenge!
The columns had to stay, but they were in pretty inconvenient spots. We needed to find ways to move them, or incorporate them into our design.
We “eliminated” one column by sandwiching it between the double ovens, glass hutch and bar. The other one was dressed up and helped divide the seating island from the baking area island.
A half bath located towards the front of the house was far away from the sliders going out to the pool in the backyard. It made more sense to relocate the half bath and free up that space for a mudroom.
The underutilized pantry/wet bar room was the perfect spot for the new relocated half bath because it was adjacent to the sliders leading to the pool.
There was enough room in the former pantry/wet bar to create a full bathroom with a large shower and beautiful, upscale finishes.
Our client really loves to drink coffee, so they were hoping to have a dedicated area
The family’s day-to-day entrance opened to a large area taken up by two closets and a small, dated half bath. Needed was a mudroom with a place to easily hang a coat, kick off shoes and store other items.
to bring more joy to this daily ritual.
This long, narrow space had nowhere to store shoes and boots, so they congregated on the floor of this high traffic area.
The new mudroom with updated tiled floors, built-ins and Zebrawood bench make it not only useful but also dresses up the space.
One of the clients is an avid baker, so we designed an area customized for her craft including a farm sink, dishwasher, double ovens, trash pull out and mixer lift.
A drawer dedicated entirely to sprinkles is exactly what this baker needed to make decorating her creations more enjoyable.
And of course, no baker’s kitchen is complete without a drawer customized for rolling pins!
